Jim Carmin: FCO Literature and Other Treasures at the Multnomah County Library

January 10, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$33.00 – $55.00

Jim Carmin has directed the John Wilson Special Collections at Multnomah County Library since 1998. Besides housing the Ed Francis collection of fly-fishing books, and the papers of the Flyfisher Foundation & Club, the special collections include 12,000 volumes with books dating back to the 13th century, incredible rare books such as the Birds of America by John James Audubon, Beatrix Potter’s first book, A Happy Pair, and the first edition, three-volume set of Redoute’s Les Roses. Mr. Carmin has attended Rare Book Book at the University of Virginia twice, has an M.L.S from Ball State University, and an M.A. from the University of Oregon where he worked as an architecture and art librarian for 12 years. For the past 20 years he’s had dozens of book reviews published in the U.S. and England, most recently in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and The Oregonian. This month he’ll talk about highlights of the Ed Francis collection and the importance of fly-fishing literature.
