Famed reel maker Hardy Brothers of Alnwick, England, celebrated 150 years of angling history this year, culminating in a grand celebration at the Alnwick Castle hosted by the Duke of Northumbria.

Our own Joel LaFollette, along with his wife Jennifer La Follette, both of Royal Treatment Fly Fishing in West Linn, were two of the 150 honored guests invited to attend. Passionate collectors and users of vintage Hardy reels, Joel and Jennifer jumped at this once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit the historical home of Hardy and walk in the footsteps of generations of skilled reel makers.

With very little time to plan and no “reel” itinerary, the La Follettes set out for England with formal wear, walking shoes, and a spirit of adventure.  Their presentation will feature photographs and stories of Hardy Brothers history, old reels, the Northumbria countryside, and lots of castles.
