President’s Message – September 2022

President Mike Radakovich

As proud and active members of The Flyfisher’s Club of Oregon (FCO), we have a common passion:  the great outdoors, fly fishing and the many other spectacular resources at our fingertips.  We have seen declines in the number of returning steelhead including painful river closures. The river closures not only frustrate many of us, it also affects the livelihood of many small business owners and their employees.

This year has seen a better number of returning wild steelhead and as of August 31, 2022, the count was 26,220!!  Rivers are now open to fishing!! Book a trip with your favorite guide!!!

The FCO has been a wonderful meeting place for over 60 years. Great speakers and camaraderie. Over the years we have had the wonderful experience to fish and learn from some of the best steelhead guides, past and present in the world.

The Flyfisher Foundation has given nearly $500k to various organizations that  protect our precious land and fish.

We need your help to continue protecting nature and fish. We need to fill a couple of vital committee chair positions.

Membership – Rick Pay who has served in this role for 10 years is stepping away at the end of the year. Rick will still be a member of the FCO and will be available to help the new person who leads membership.

Auction chair– Janet Arenz who has been the chair for the last several years will also be stepping away from her role. Janet will also be available to help the new person who leads the auction committee.
