60th Anniversary Celebration:
60th Anniversary Creel and
Nick Wheeler’s “Infinite Season”

The year 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Flyfisher’s Club of Oregon. To celebrate the occasion, as well as a tentative step toward normalcy in an era made safer by vaccines, please join your fellow members at our first in-person meeting in nearly two years.

Your Program committee has put together a special evening which will include a brief presentation on “The Literary History of the FCO” by past-President Mark Metzdorff; the unveiling of a special book created for the occasion—the 60th Anniversary Creel; as well as a talk on Oregon’s “Infinite Season” by a local expert known to many of us, Nick Wheeler from the Portland Fly Shop.

Since the Club’s founding, a fall meeting has often been designated as “Couple’s Night” to encourage members to bring a spouse, significant other, or date to a meeting more festive than the typical monthly gathering, and this will fit that bill nicely. The University Club will be decked out for the holidays, and we encourage attendees to match the surroundings by dressing up for the event (The University Club’s dress code is business casual). A special fixed-price menu will feature Wet Fly Hour hors d’oeuvres, a selection of main courses, a complimentary bottle of red and white wine at each table, and dessert with coffee. To further encourage attendance, the cost this month will be subsidized by the club, keeping the price at a very reasonable $40 per person. Aside from the “Couple’s” aspect, this is also a great opportunity to introduce a friend and their date to the club.

Safety remains at the top of our concerns, so we ask that only fully vaccinated members and guests attend. University Club Covid policy will be followed, which requires masks when not eating or drinking. We will not be policing these restrictions, but trust that our members and guests will abide by these rules, and attendees assume any risk associated with attendance, which we feel will be minimal.

One copy of the 60th Anniversary Creel will be provided to each member of the Club, and additional copies will be available for purchase at $30 each for those who might wish to stock up for holiday giving!
