The McKenzie River is one of Oregon’s crown jewels for fly anglers.  Originating in the high Cascades, it flows westward into the Willamette River. Fish in the McKenzie and some of its tributaries include resident rainbow, bull and cutthroat trout as well as spring Chinook salmon and whitefish.  It’s a gorgeous river, with a nearly 13-mile stretch designated as Wild and Scenic for its outstanding values of fish, scenic quality, recreation, hydrology/geology and water quality.

John Wall has been guiding on the McKenzie since 2008 and also has worked as a fly fishing instructor, and in retail fly fishing shops.  The first fly shop he worked for was Northwest Flyfishing Outfitters. In 2018, John, along with his wife Monica and their partner Jason Osborn, opened The Portland Fly Shop n NW Glisan Street.

Monica (“Mo”) Wall started fly fishing and working as an apprentice in 2016. Mo offers private women’s fly fishing classes, and also helps teach the beginners fly fishing classes and steelhead classes through The Portland Fly Shop.  Occasionally she can be found working at the shop.

In addition to the McKenzie, John and Mo offer guided angling on the Clackamas, Middle Fork, Deschutes, and Nestucca rivers as well as still water opportunities on Mt Hood.
