Hello Fly Fishers!
Today I am mapping my assault route for the first Native Fish Society Trout-A-Thon. Oregon is home to 9 species of wild trout and I have 48 hours and a big state to try and find them all. The coastal waters are being hit hard by rain so I am changing my original plan for waters that won’t be blown out. I hear a tiny voice saying “ head east my friend”. My research tells me a Bull Trout could be waiting for me on the Metolius and I have a lovely Clouser Minnow I am planning to serve up. The most challenging of the fish will be the Lahontan Cutthroat. It lives in the waters close to the Nevada border and an area of our state that I have never visited. This fun adventure organized by the Native Fish Society is a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in Oregon.
A reminder that we will have club elections for Board Members at the February meeting. This is a great opportunity to be involved, we have openings on the FCO Board. I am also looking for members that have interest in helping with club outings and maintenance on our website. Please contact me if you would like more information.
This month we will be having a very informal Fly Swap during the Wet Fly hour. Please look through your fly boxes and consider donating some. We will have a table to showcase them. It is a great opportunity to see flies for many different species. I know I have an abundance of Alaska flies that I plan to bring.
