President’s Message – October 2023

GR River

Grand Ronde River in autumn

Hello Fellow Fly Fishers,

It is officially fall, and with it comes cooler weather, the vibrant transformation of leaves and shorter days. Fall steelhead fishing has kicked off, offering us the opportunity to embrace the beauty of rivers like the Sandy, Clackamas and Deschutes. Make the most of this splendid time of the year on the water!

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the WaterWatch dinner presentation on Tuesday, October 10th,  at the University Club. Jim McCarthy, the Southern Oregon Program Director, will be joined by Executive Director Neil Brandt and WaterWatch attorney Maura Fahey to provide an update on the Lovelace Dam removal project. It’s an event you won’t want to miss. Please note that our online reservation system is actually offline right now so please email Jim Hillas with your meal selection and plan to pay for your dinner by check at the October 10th meeting. Deadline for registering with Jim is Friday October 6th at 5 p.m.

October is Volunteer Month, and the FCO is in need of a Secretary for our Board meetings. Remember we are an-all volunteer organization, and your help would be greatly appreciated.

As you head out to enjoy the wonderful fall weather and activities, may all your fly-fishing adventures be memorable and your experiences on the water be fulfilling.

Happy fishing,

Mike Radakovich,  President
