Member Matters – September 2021

Members and guests enjoy the 2021 FCO picnic.

2021 FCO Picnic Brings Members Together

After an 18 month hiatus, FCO members gathered in person! The annual picnic was held at Westmoreland Park and Casting Pond last month under sunny skies. They enjoyed luscious Italian food and had a chance to demo some awesome rods, courtesy of Northwest Fly Fishing Outfitters and Royal Treatment Fly Fishing. Most of all, they enjoyed each others’ company. Thanks to Mike Radakovich for organizing the picnic and procuring the great dinner!

Useful Information to Keep You Safe

After working with chronically ill and immunosuppressed patients for 40 years, I am constantly on the look out for clear and factual information about how we can reduce risk of contracting and/or transmitting the coronavirus (SARS CoV-2). And now with more breakthrough infections (as expected because vaccines – all but one human vaccine – prevent disease but not necessarily infection), we need to be vigilant. Yes, we are inundated with pandemic information but sometimes we want someone who is qualified to cut to the chase and answer the important questions. Thus, when I heard one of my favorite virologists, Dr. Vincent Rachaniello, on this podcast last week, I was cheering! He took listener’s live questions sent in to the University of Kansas’ Morning Medical Update and set the record straight. It’s worth a listen!
