President’s Message – September 2018

The summer has flown by and here it is the week before Labor Day.  I am enjoying some time in the Methow Valley in Washington.  I spent my first two days still water fishing on Moccasin Lake and the hopper action was nothing shy of epic.  Yesterday I floated the Methow River with our good friend and excellent guide Kevin Van Buren, owner of North Cascades Fly Fishing.  It was a bluebird day with the slightest hint of fall in the air.  The day was a winner with many fish landed, and a couple of bright, colorful Cutthroats that will remain in my memory for many months to come.  If you haven’t fished the Methow it is worth your time.  The drive from Portland is about 7 hours and through some scenic valleys. The fall offers some glorious colors and hiking opportunities.  Winthrop has charming lodging and good local restaurants.

The casting pond picnic was extremely well attended by our members, guests and local fly shops.  Ross did a wonderful job coordinating the evening- Bravo! The food, friends and fun were over the top.
