Dave Hughes to Speak at FCO Event October 24
Dave Hughes, long-time flyfishing author and Fly Fishers Club of Oregon Lifetime Member, Dave Hughes, will speak on “The Ten Critical Skills of Fly Fishing for Trout” at The Portland Fly Shop on Thursday, October 24 stating at 7 p.m.
For over 50 years, Dave has been one of the most prodigious American authors about all things fly fishing for trout. A life time Oregon resident, Dave has written over 20 books on various aspects of fly fishing – from bug identification to fly tying to fly selection to reading the water to making the right presentation to fighting and releasing fish.
In addition to his books, over the years Dave was a frequent contributor of articles to outdoor and angling magazines including Field and Stream, Fly Rod and Reel, The American Angler, Steelhead, Salmon and Trout, among others.
Known for his straightforward and clean writing style, mixed with humor and humility, Dave is essentially coming out of retirement to make his presentation on October 24. The event is co-sponsored by The Fly Fishers Club of Oregon and The Portland Fly Shop.
Dave’s 30 minute or so presentation will be loaded with invaluable tips and techniques useful for trout anglers of any experience level, including those just now thinking about entering the sport. A question and answer period will follow. Information about the Fly Fisher’s Club of Oregon will also be available for those who attend.
Libations and cheese and crackers will be served and a raffle of flyfishing equipment provided by The Portland Fly Shop will be held for those in attendance.
The event is free and open to the public. The first 25 people through the door will receive an autographed copy of Dave’s book The Deschutes – considered by many to be the seminal work on our home river.
