The Club’s August Fly Fishing Class Deemed Success
The Flyfishers’ Club convened an all-day Essentials of Fly Fishing Class on Sunday, August 3, at Willamette Park in West Linn. Seven Club members and two emerging Club members signed up for and attended the all-day class. All attendees were new to the Club in the past year and new to the fly fishing world.

Casting instruction was conducted by Jennifer LaFollette from Royal Treatment Fly Shop. Club members Cathy Tronquet and Stan Chessir assisted, working with individual students to apply Jennifer’s casting lessons. Participants raved about the quality of the casting instruction that they received and, to a person, improved their casting ability.

Long-time Club member Frank Rodriquez led the classroom instruction which included sessions on gear selection; insect identification and fly selection to match the hatch; reading water; leaders; essential knots; as well as other topics. Frank was assisted in the class by Club member Jay Spassov. In addition to top-notch instruction, the $95 class fee included a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, chips and cookies.
The class was organized by Club Program Committee member Paul Franklin and promoted by Kevin Quinn, coordinator of the Club’s Communication Committee.
The Essentials of Fly Fishing Class was the first of its kind to be sponsored and promoted by the Club at least in the last decade. The hope is to make the class an annual offering, perhaps opening it up to the public as well as Club members.

According to those who attended, the class was a big success and helped all participants in their individual pursuits to fish with fly fishing gear.
