President’s Message – August 2025

Hello fellow fly fishers and outdoor enthusiasts!

We have been blessed with incredible weather and great opportunities to enjoy fishing and the outdoors. I hope you have been getting out and enjoying some fishing

My advice for the rest of the summer…Make this your every routine: wake up, breakfast and coffee, smile and enjoy your beautiful life. Make someone smile, plan to be outside as much as possible. Enjoy every moment.

This is to be repeated daily!

The Flyfishers’ Club has been busy arranging incredible activities for this month. August 3, the Club is holding its first-ever class for beginning and new fly fishers: The Essentials of Fly Fishing. There is casting instruction provided by Club favorite Jennifer Lafollette. Long-time Club member and ardent angler Frank Rodriquez will be leading the classroom, covering topics like insect identification, matching the hatch, flies, gear you need, basic knot tying and much more.

As this is written, there are nine students who signed up for the class, which is great as we have a 10 person limit set for the class.

More on how the class went and next steps in the next issue of The Flyline.

Tuesday, August 12th is the date for the Club’s Annual Picnic. If you haven’t yet signed up, please go to the website and sign up now. The picnic dinner is free and features great food from DeNicola’s Italian Restaurant. It is very important that you sign up in advance so that we can order the correct amount of food.

This year’s picnic will go from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Westmoreland Park casting ponds. We will have some optional mini-classes and games. All the local fly shops will be in attendance and ready to help you with your casting and answering your fishing and gear questions. And, of course, we will have a raffle.

Please sign up today if you haven’t already.

For the second year, The Club will be represented at Love Oregon, which will be held at Camp Colton, August 22-24. The Club will be offering structured casting instruction on Saturday afternoon, August 23 with actual times to be determined. Ten Club members will assist certified casting instructor Ron Lauzon. Come out to Love Oregon and enjoy the festival and say hello to other Club members.

My thanks to all the Club members who have worked hard to put these August events together.

Also, please mark your calendar for a great dinner meeting on October 23, featuring Todd Moen, owner and videographer for the incredible on-line Catch Magazine. Todd roams the world creating videos of some of the most magical fishing locations on the planet. Make sure to attend the October 23 meeting.

Finally, you should know that our Club is not only stable but steadily growing. We have added eleven new members in the last three months and nearly 30 since the start of 2025! Great news!

See you soon!
