Brian O’Keefe on Trophy Trout of the Southern Hemisphere

Brian O’Keefe is one of the foremost photographers in the fly-fishing world and has been for nearly 50 years! He and his rods and cameras have traveled the world many times over, fishing and photo shooting most of the planet’s greatest fishing destinations.
The list of countries O’Keefe has fished and photo shot is staggering. In several cases, he was among the first outsiders to fish and photo shoot areas that are now commonly found on anglers’ bucket lists – places like Belize, Cuba, islands of the Pacific, and several African destinations, to name just a few. And, in more than a few cases, Brian has gone back over and over to his favorite locations.
Brian had his first fly-fishing photo published when he was 16. Since then, his photos have shown up routinely in fly-fishing and travel magazines, newspapers, catalogs, books and websites. In 2024, alone , O’Keefe had cover photos in four magazines, including, three covers for Fly Fisherman Magazine!
O’Keefe’s presentation April 8 is entitled “Trophy Trout in the Southern Hemisphere”, featuring photos he took in 2024 on trips to New Zealand and Chile and Argentina. In 2024, Brian celebrated his 50th anniversary of fly-fishing in New Zealand and his trip to the trout country of Chile and Argentina was his 12th angling visit.
He has combined his favorite photos from these trips into a very informative, colorful and fish-filled, presentation. He will cover places to go, the angling seasons, the hatches, techniques and tackle. His program will be the next best thing to being in New Zealand and South America in person.
In addition to his dinner presentation, O’Keefe will do a 45 minute bonus presentation from 5:15 to 6 p.m. for those interested on “Fly-Fishing Phone Photography”.
Brian finds himself shooting most of his photos these days with his camera phone. His four magazine cover photos in 2024, for example, were all shot with his phone’s camera!
He has learned several fun and easy tricks for getting the most out of your phone camera, and he will share those tricks with you during the pre-meeting session. He says learning how to get the most out of your camera is fun and easy to learn.
Bring your phone and “in a few minutes, you will be showing your grandkids how to great photos with a phone.”
